Places To Stay in Steamboat Springs

Locations In Steamboat Springs – Where to Stay

The different areas to stay in Steamboat Springs can be broken down into the 6 areas shown in the map below. Have no fear! I’ll describe each of them below as well.

Steamboat Base Area

The Steamboat base offers tons of lodging within walking distance of the gondola. You’ll pay a premium to be so close to the action but it’s a great option if you don’t want to be loading up the car or taking the free bus from town or the parking lot. At the base, there are hotels like the Steamboat Grand, condos like the EagleRidge Lodge, and some houses to rent all within a 5 minute walk to the all that the Steamboat base area has to offer.

Ski In – Ski Out

There’s nothing like skiing out of your back door down to the lifts and skiing right up to your door at the end of the day. There are plenty of condos and homes for rent up on the mountain that offer this special experience. We’ve stayed in the Storm Meadows East condos before and it offers a true ski in – ski out experience.

You’ll pay a premium for this convenience but it will be well worth the price for many travellers.

Mountain Village

The Mountain Village area at Steamboat is just south of the base area and within walking distance.

When we traveled to Steamboat on vacation, we usually stayed in this area which includes many home rentals, condo resorts like Trappeurs Crossing Resort where we’ve stayed often, and a few hotels.

The main benefit of the Mountain Village area is the variety of lodging options and the walkability to the base area. You can walk out your front door and be on the gondola in 10 mintues. The free city bus runs the green route down to this area so it’s easy to get to the base or downtown if you’re not within walking distance.

Downtown

The allure of many ski towns is their downtown area which is usually a historic main street with modern restaurants and shops. Steamboat is no exception and the downtown area shines with awesome places to eat AND sleep. There are some home rentals in the downtown area and also a few smaller botique hotels including some in planning as I write this in 2020.

You’ll be close to all the after-skiing activities and the free city bus route will take you to the base when you’re ready to ski or ride.

Fish Creek Falls

This area is slightly overlooked when it comes to lodging simply because it doesn’t have many option. It’s a prime area in between the base and the downtown area. It’s mostly filled with residential neighborhoods of single family homes, townhomes, and condos. There are a lot of opportunities to rent entire homes like ours on a nightly basis via Airbnb and other sites. This area is not in the middle of the action, but as a result, it’s much quieter and you can stay in Steamboat like a local.

West Steamboat

Steamboat Springs is a growing town and one of the main directions it is growing is west. There are no hotels in this area so if you want to stay here, it will likely be a vacation home rental. The benefit of staying in West Steamboat is you’ll likely snag a lower nightly price and still be 5 minutes from downtown and 10 minutes from the mountain. There are new neighborhoods in the development stages as I write this in 2020 so I’m sure West Steamboat will look different in a few years. Whether or not it will be a popular option for vacationers – time will tell.
